Like the ground-breaking culture of the ‘80s, the evocative, retro styling of the new Retrowave Collection challenges old conventions and inspires you to write your own future.

London, 1st March 2023 Parker Jotter Originals continues its successful journey through the decades with the release of a new line of pens inspired by the innovative sci-fi films, video games and cultural influences of the 80s generation. The Jotter Originals Retrowave Collection reflects the striking, neon colours and vibrant graphics associated with this era in a series of five exclusive pens with matching packaging. With this collection, Jotter Originals embraces today’s diverse world and encourages everyone to challenge old conventions and write their own future.

THE ‘80s — AN UNFORGETTABLE CULTURAL REVOLUTION
The 1980s was a unique decade, an exciting era of enthusiasm, aspiration and ambition. A time when success and wealth seemed to be within everyone’s reach. The decade was characterised by futuristic movies like Blade Runner, Back to the Future and Tron, and which witnessed the explosion in electronic dance music and the evolution of its sound. It was the calm before the techno-storm of the ‘90s, an uncomplicated decade regarded by many as ‘the good old days’, invoking nostalgic feelings of security, comfort, reliability and trust. Nostalgia is a powerful emotion, so although today’s Millennials or Gen Z won’t have experienced it first hand, the vivid, dynamic culture of the 80s represents a time for which they may feel a strong emotional connection – a sense of ‘Fauxstalgia’.

ORIGINAL SINCE ‘54
The PARKER Jotter pen has been uniquely positioned as a design icon since its launch in 1954. The Jotter Originals line has been commemorating the history of PARKER Jotter pens by combining throwback styles with Jotter’s distinctive silhouette, signature click, and famous arrow clip. With each release focusing on a different era of cultural icons, the Retrowave Collection is the latest in this line of vintage-styled pens designed for a modern audience.

AN EVOCATIVE SENSE OF ‘FAUXSTALGIA’
The Jotter Originals Retrowave Collection features pens in five bold finishes and packaging recalling the futuristic, popular culture of the 80s era. The vibrant colours are inspired by the forward-looking, dynamic attitudes of that unique decade, giving the pens a contemporary appeal that will transport Gen Z and Millennials back to the future, evoking a powerful sense of ‘fauxstalgia’. Colours include Caribbean Blue, Vermilion Red, Indigo Purple, Apple Green and Black.

ENCOURAGING YOUNG PEOPLE TO WRITE THEIR FUTURE
In tandem with the forward-thinking optimism and innovative creativity of 80s culture, the Jotter Originals Retrowave Collection offers contemporary, everyday writing pens that inspire young people to express themselves and celebrate their individualism. The bold colour palette and eye-catching, vibrant packaging stands out like no other ballpoint pen on offer today. It encourages Gen Z and Millennials to pursue a modern way of thinking, embracing their unique personalities and creatively writing their own future.

SPECIAL DUO PACKAGING
All five Jotter Originals pens will be sold individually, while special duo-packs will feature two pens of contrasting colours. The duo packs come in Vermilion Red & Indigo Purple, or Caribbean Blue & Apple Green combinations. The Black pen will only be sold individually.
The duo packs present an attractive offer, with two Jotter Originals Ballpoint Pens at €21.60, whilst the single Jotter Originals Ballpoint pen will be priced at €14.50.

ABOUT JOTTER
THE BIRTH OF AN ICON
PARKER has always believed that all great things take time. This ethos began with the dream of a 25-year old entrepreneur, the brand’s founder George Safford Parker, who stated, ‘it will always be possible to make a better pen’. This philosophy is well-embodied with Jotter: although it was not the first ballpoint pen to come to market, it was certainly one of the best. After nine years spent perfecting the research and technology, the iconic Jotter was launched in January 1954. For PARKER, launching a new pen was about introducing a model of best-in-class quality, design and performance.

A COLOURFUL REVOLUTION
Since its first launch, colours have always been at the heart of Jotters identity. Initially produced in only 4 colours (red, black, grey and green), the colour range quickly expanded to 6 new colours in 1956.
Produced in more than 100 colours over the years, Jotter has been able to adapt to all trends. These colours are still nowadays an endless source of inspiration. There is simply not a single colour that doesn’t suit the iconic shape of a Jotter.

THE PARKER QUALITY, ALWAYS
Its precise technology and timeless aesthetic mean that the Jotter continues to be an international reference today and a symbol of pioneering design. From helping the US Federal Government on R&D projects to being the “Presidential Pen” of John F. Kennedy in 1961, PARKER and Jotter’s reliability are not to be proven anymore
